Brian asked me to go on a first date with him when I was a sophomore in college. I was living in the sorority house at the time and shared a room with my best friend Kelsea. I was excited about the date, but also wasn’t really sure If I wanted to go. It was nothing against Brian and who he was, but shortly before I met him I kind of decided I was going to take a step back from dating. Focus more on myself and what I wanted, blah blah blah (ya know the stage everyone goes into at some point). So battling between the two I was going back and forth on if I should cancel or not. But my roommate said “hell no you are going” (Thanks Kelsea! I still owe you big time)
We met at Super Mex for dinner. Pretty sure I got a quesadilla and he got a burrito. Everything just felt right and then he mentioned how he goes to the Kern River all the time. That stopped me in my tracks because I also went to the Kern River every year with my friend’s family! (Jazmine what up!) Not many people know of Kern River so I took that as a good sign and from that moment on I joked “well you had me at Kern River 😉 ). (Brian also proposed there, but that’s a story for another time). After dinner we walked the Huntington Beach Pier. There was music playing and like straight out of a Hallmark movie we started dancing. We ended the night chasing the waves and sitting by a fire pit. After that night I gave up my “wanting to be alone” attitude, we went on a few more dates and then he asked me to be his girlfriend!
And you can read all about that next week!
