Pick a location that means something to both of you. Think of who you are as a individual and as a couple. It is very easy to find a beautiful location, but if you can find a venue that means something to you both it can bring more of your personalities out! If you are both beach goers and love that vitamin – sea do a shoot at at a beach! If you are home bodies and love to binge the latest netflix original do an in home session! There are so many different types of locations you can choose from so make sure you choose a place where you will both be comfortable.
Plan for a golden hour session. As a natural light photographer my favorite time to shoot is golden hour which is about an hour to an hour and half before sunset. During this time I am able to capture you in the most beautiful and flattering light. Also you get to share a sunset with your SO after the shoot. I mean can someone say romantic!!
Get your Hair & makeup done. An engagement session is the perfect time to get glammed up! You are only going to take engagement photos once in your life and you should feel confident on the outside and inside!
Clean your ring and get your nails done. Capturing a few close ups of your ring is a must, so this is the perfect time to get your ring cleaned and a fresh manicure will make the perfect touch! Trust me… you won’t regret a manicure, but you will regret seeing chipped nails!
Plan your outfit. Choosing your outfits can always be a little difficult, especially with so many options out there! Check out this blog post where I help you choose what to wear. You can always ask me for my opinion as well! I will be able to tell you what will look great with the location you have chosen!
Try to meet your photographer before the shoot. It is always a great idea to meet your photographer beforehand especially if you are not that comfortable having your picture taken by someone else. This way you can break the ice and gain trust in the person who is capturing these moments.
Make a day out of it. One of the things I love to tell my couples is to make a day out of their engagement shoot and go out on a date afterwards! Starting your day in this mindset helps you feel connected and romantic as you he’d into your photo shoot. Start your day with happy hour or coffee at your favorite spot! You can also invite your photographer to meet you there to grab a few shots before changing locations! Then after the session is over and you are feeling all lovey dovey you can go grab a nice dinner!
Keep it natural. Let’s be real, the thought of being in front of a camera can seem a little scary, especially if you fall into the not so photogenic category. (Hello me! Anyone else feel this way?) But here is the thing: my job is to make it a little less awkward! I am here to get rid any stress and to make it feel as natural as possible. I have prompts that will make you laugh, smile, and just have a good time. At the end of it you will just feel like you were on a date with me third wheeling! I will keep it light, fun, and there will be tons of laughter!
